Upholding Equality in the Workplace with the CROWN Act 👑

👑 Instead of celebrating Independence Day tomorrow in the USA, let’s celebrate the protection of the independence of our crowns across America.

👑 I am a #DovePartner 🕊✨️teaming up on #CROWNday to help advocate for the passing of the #CROWNACT in all 50 states. Together let’s help eliminate #hairdiscrimination today in under 5 minutes❗️📝

👑 Today is CROWN Day a.k.a. Black Hair Independence Day.

Black hair holds profound cultural, social, and ancestral significance across human history and cultures, especially in the Black culture. It transcends geographical boundaries, serving as a timeless symbol of beauty, heritage, and liberation. Throughout centuries, it has played a pivotal role in societies worldwide, acting as a powerful canvas for self-expression, cultural affiliation, and the embodiment of personal identity.

👑 My personal #CrownProudThen&Now story began during an immersive journey across Egypt. Adorned with fiery red beaded braids by Egyptian women, those braids became a conduit of culture, representing the vibrant colors of the supposed ‘dark continent’ and serving as a tangible link to my African ancestry. Each strand was a testament to freedom, connection, and the unapologetic celebration of my individuality.

👑 As I prepared to start a new job, fear of judgment loomed over me. Would my unique hairstyle be perceived as unprofessional? In that moment, I confronted the weight of race-based hair discrimination, just one facet of the broader oppression black women face. Despite the fear, I took the risk of showing up as I was anyway.

👑 That fear I felt about my hair being perceived in the workplace is why the #CROWNAct and the CROWN Movement is so important. Dove has been instrumental in driving advocacy for the CROWN Act, co-founding the CROWN Coalition to help put an end to race-based hair discrimination. Let’s champion the CROWN Act and Movement, ensuring everyone can embrace their natural hair textures and protective styles without fear of judgment or discrimination. Together, we can create environments where diversity thrives, empowering everyone to authentically express themselves.

❗️📣❗️We need your support! By demanding equal rights and protections for all individuals, we can make a powerful statement against race-based hair discrimination. Let’s break down barriers and build a more inclusive society for black women in America and beyond.
